Christine Shimizu

Christine Shimizu is an honorary general curator of heritage. A specialist in the arts of the Far East, she was curator at the Musée national des arts asiatiques-Guimet, in Paris, responsible for the Japanese and Korean departments from 1978 to 1993, then chief curator at the Musée national de Céramique, in Sèvres, responsible for the Asian collections from 1993 to 2010. She was director of the Cernuschi Museum, the Asian Art Museum of the City of Paris, until 2015.  She is the author of numerous works on the art of Japan and China. She has curated numerous exhibitions on Asian ceramics (The Odyssey of Chinese Porcelain; Ropes of Fire: Japanese Ceramics of Bizen; Tôji: Avant-garde and Tradition of Contemporary Japanese Ceramics; Satsuma from Exoticism to Japonism) and on Asian art (Japan through the Seasons, Lacquerware of Shibata Zeshin).
